“Goood morning Yami!” Yugi sang cheerfully as he slid down the stairs railing. “Morning Yugi.”  Yami stated blankly taking a sip of his caramel coffee.  “Do you know what today is?!? Hmm? Guess!” Yugi said excitedly.  “Uhh, Wednesday?” Yami said plainly once again, this time focusing his violet eyes on Yugi and not the TV. “Y-Yeah, guess we better get going if we wanna get to school in time. “ Yugi buzzing energy drained little by little as the day went by.

“Hey Nikki, Joey, Ryou! Wait up!” Yugi yelled as he ran down the hall. “Hey Yugi!” Nicole Ishtar, younger sister of Marik Ishtar said as she scratched her beautiful blonde scalp. “Yug!” Joey howled throught the hall even though Yugi had already catched up with them. “Hello Yugi.” Ryou said, his nose in a book as he walked down the hall with his friends. “So, do you guys know what today is?” Yugi askes as he adjusted the strap of his backpack.

“Arcade day?” “Shopping Wednesday?” “Free Book Fair day?” Nicole, Joey and Ryou all had their different guesses but nonw of them was close to what today was. “No No and I wish.” Yugi said spotting their usual lunch table.           Tea, Tristen, Marik and his Yami, Malik, Bakura and Yami were already waiting, talking and playing around in their food.

“Hey guys!” Nikki said running up and shiming herself in at the table between Marik and Tea. Tea made a pout after being moved away from the high school hottie but then she saw Yugi coming her way and instantly perked up.  “Hey Yugi!” Yea said brushing her hair down, making sure not a hair was out of place. “Hey guys.”

Yugi said slupishly as he plopped his self sown between Bakura and Yami, Ryou sitting next to Yugi. Both were making sure their yami’s were  a good distance fri each other, trying not to have that fork in Yami’s arm again. Let’s be happy there wasn’t any available knives around.

 “Sup short stuff?” Malik asked playing around with some kind of meat, at least I think it’s meat. “What is that?!?” Nikki asked looking at Bakura’s lunch plate. “I think it’s a sad attempt of steak. And this will be the only time I EVER say this so listen carefully.” Bakura raised his fork in the air and said. “I will never EVER eat this sad thing called STEAK.”

Bakura stabed the fork right into the middle of the steak-thingie.  “Gasp!” Marik said putting his hand over his O shaped mouth. “Did you hear that? I thought I never hear those words come out of his mouth!” Nikki said doing the same thing her brother did for extra added drama. “So does anyone at this table know what today is?” Yugi asked taking a sip of his Coke. “ No.” Everyone at the table said at the exact same time.” Yami looked at Yugi. “Why do you keep asking us that?” Yami asked poking at his chicen salad. “No reason, it just…nothing.” “If you say so Yug.” Joey said as him a Tristen got up and went to their next class. “Ask me if you need anything Yugi!” Tea said grabbing her bag and also getting up from the table. “Yeah, need anything…” “just ask us!” Marik and Nikki said while Bakura and Ryou got up from the lunch table with Marik, Nicole and Malik. “ Ok, see you guy’s later.” Yugi said looking down in disappointment. “See ya later Yugi.” Yami said getting up to catch up with Tea, Joey and Tristen.

Yugi walked down the hall. Hanging his head, not letting anyone see the tears swell up in his eyes. “How could they forget? Nikki never forgot ANYONES birthday…Joey’s, she remembered his. Bakura and Ryou’s… She threw them a huge birthday party. Marik got to go out on the town with his family because of course once again Nikki remembered his birthday.” Yugi hid behind the school and let the tears flow from his eyes like a river. “I thought they were my friends!” Yugi screamed, even more hurt than before. “Even my own Yami didn’t remember!” Yugi collapsed against the school wall and slowly pulled himself into a ball like he did when he was younger and his parent’s would argue. All those memories came flowing back to him.

Yugi’s 10^th Birthday

“Harold I told you to get chocolate! Not red velvet!” Emma screamed at her husband. “He like it! Don’t you Yugi,” Young little Yugi looked up at his parents and said with hope in his eyes and voice. “ I like! I don’t care, we can eat anything!” He said as he hugged his parent’s leg in a way to calm them down. “ No Yugi I told your father to get chocolate not red velvet!” Emma yelled storming her way out of the room after shaking Yugi off her leg. Yugi let go of his fathers leg as he stormed out the other way.  “Why can’t we just be a happy family like those families on TV?”

Yugi asked running upstairs into his room. He sat on his bed, curling into a little ball and crying his tiny little heart out. He stopped. Took a melting candle off the cake, making a wish. “ I wish for friends who will be funny…” A picture of Joey and Tristen crossed his mind. “Who will stand up and be by my side no matter what….” Nikki, Yami and Tea’s faces flashed through his mind. “Who are loyal and someone who sticks to his word….” Ryou and Bakura’a face raced across his mind. “And will never ever fight with each other no matter what anyone says…” Marik and Malik both flashed in his mind. “And will always and I mean always love me.”

All his friends together in one big happy group crossed his mind. He blew out the candle, wishing so hard to find people like this.

Present Time

“I thought I found them….guess I was wrong.” Yugi said dusting his self off and walking towards his home. His phone rang, that was the ring tone he set for Nikki. “Hey Nikki.” Yugi said dragging his feet. “Hey, meet me at Ryou’s house, I got something to tell you.” “Why are you at Ryou’s house?” Yugi asked suddenly perking up. “Just come already.” Nikki said tapping her foot in annoyance. “Ok, coming.” Yugi said hanging up and running for no reason.

“He’s coming! I can feel his presence getting closer!” Yami said as he hid behind the couch. Everyone else scrambling to find a hiding place.  Yugi opened the door slowly creeping in. Kinda like they do in a horror movie. “Hello?” Yugi asked shutting the door behind him. Suddenly the lights came on and everybody jumped out from their hiding places. “Surprise! Happy Birthday Yugi!” All his friends were there. Marik, Malik, Nikki, Ryou, Bakura, Yami, Joey and Tea and Tristen. Even Ishizu, Odion was there, along with his grandpa. “Oh my…”

Yugi eyes swelled up with tears, but this time they were tears of joy, not sorrow. “Thank you guys so much! I thought you forgot it was my birthday!” Joey looked taken back while he put his arm around Yugi’s shoulder. “Yugi, your our best bud. How could we forget your birthday?” Joey asked. “Your my hikari Yugi. It’s impossible for me to forget your birthday.” Yami said giving him a hug. “You guys are the best!” Yugi said.

For the rest of the night the gang partied and had the time of their lives. Yugi leaned over into Nikki’s ear and whispered. “Thanks.” Yugi said leaning back and smiling. Nikki smiled a heart warming smile and said. “Your welcome Motou.” She smiled and continued talking to Ryou.
